IITK New York Office Internship Day 1 - How I created my blog on github ?
May 15, 2016
This is my first blog on github. I started writing a blog because it is the part of my internship. My mentors Shivanshu and proneet told me that they are going to check my everyday progress of the internship via a blog. Through out the internship I am going to write everything about my project so that any person want to do the same project or find something important can take the help from this blog.
Prerequisite:
Before creating the blog, you should have:
- Basic familiarity with github, and using the git.
- Basic familiartity with mark down.
I head over to GitHub and create a new repository named username.github.io, where username is your username (or organization name) on GitHub like subham.github.io. After creating the repository I head over to Jekyll and download a copy of the blog theme. I have uploaded the copy of the theme to my repository with the following commands in terminal:
cd Desktop/subhamg.github.io-master/
git init
git remote add origin https://github.com/subhamg/subhamg.github.io.git
git push -u origin master
git add .
git config --global user.email "subham.iitk@gmail.com"
git config --global user.name "Subham Goyal"
git commit -m "initial"
git push -u origin master
I changed my website’s name, description, avatar and other options by editing the _config.yml file. Published my first blog post by edting /_posts/2014-3-3-Hello-World.md file. To edit this file I used Markdown to style text on the web.
As Adarsh mentioned in ryver that everyone needs to know basic git related commands. I went through the tutorial before coming to the campus. Shivanshu told me to read the basics of HTML,CSS and Javascript. I read about following topics in Mozilla Developer Network:
- What’s in the head? Metadata in HTML
- HTML text fundamentals
- Creating hyperlinks
- Advanced text formatting
I have also done few assesment today.
